New Nose For the New Year
An estimated 220,000 rhinoplasties are performed yearly according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, making it the most common facial plastic surgery procedure. If you’re insecure about your nose, you’re not alone. Your nose is among one of the first things people see when they look at your face. Even outside of aesthetic reasons, many people may look into rhinoplasty to help with breathing problems. No matter what your motivation is, there’s no better time to start feeling better about yourself than the new year.
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, or a nose job, is a surgical procedure in which the shape and appearance of the nose are altered. It can be done in a few different ways depending on your goals or motivation for the procedure. Septoplasty, for example, is a type of rhinoplasty that focuses on adjusting the internal pieces of the nose to help improve breathing. A cosmetic rhinoplasty can also focus on one area such as the bridge or tip of the nose simply to create more harmony with other facial features.
Who is a good candidate for rhinoplasty?
The ideal candidate for rhinoplasty is someone whose face has completely developed. Meaning they typically must be over the age of 13. We also recommend that patients be in good physical and emotional health that understands the limitations of the procedure. Achieving results that are “perfect” is impossible but we do think you will be satisfied and happy with your new nose.
What can I expect after surgery?
You will need a follow-up visit about 5 to 7 days following your rhinoplasty procedure. During this visit, your stitches will be removed and we’ll examine your nose to see how it’s healing. Many patients return to their jobs and everyday routines with a week to 10 days post-op. At that time, you may still be experiencing minor swelling and bruising but it can typically be covered up if needed. It may take up to one year for the outcome of rhinoplasty to be fully noticeable.
